Public Visits Programme

We will not be hosting any visits between Monday 29 April 2019 and Friday 14 June 2019.  This is due to Ramadan and Eid Ul Fitr and it is a time when our volunteers will be even busier than usual with extra activities.

There will also be no visits between Monday 5 August 2019 to Sunday
18 August 2019 as we will be taking a break for Eid Ul Adha.

The Masjid is fully operational and due to popular demand we have continued our programme of visits for the public.  We do not receive any external funding from government or anywhere else to organise these visits; all costs are borne by individual donors.  The programme is managed by volunteers who are committed to improving understanding and dialogue with all communities.

Due to the voluntary nature of the work, we deal with emails at the weekends and evenings.  You should therefore ensure that you give us a mobile telephone number on which we can contact you in the evening or weekend if necessary.  This number will also be required should there be any last minute changes to your visit programme.

Due to heavy demand, this is the only process that will be accepted and each visit will be approved by the Committee Secretary.  Please note that your visit will need to be confirmed formally through our Madina Masjid email system (  Please do not attempt to bypass this formal route otherwise your visit may be cancelled and you will be charged for any extra administration or inconvenience caused.

There are three types of visits – group, individual and research.  In each type of visit we will give a tour of the facilities, some background to Islamic belief and the activities we carry out in the masjid; as well as an open question & answer session for any questions you may wish to ask.  We try to make sure that all the events are conducted in a relaxed, informal and easily understandable manner which enables you to gain the most from your visit.

We ask that you treat the masjid facilities with respect as it is in full operational use and that you pay due regard to the needs of other users.  Please be aware that you will be asked to remove your shoes inside the building.

Group Visits

For organised groups such as youth groups, scouts and cubs, girl guides, churches, schools, colleges, universities etc.  a specific session will be organised for members of the individual group.  Please note that if your group includes children or vulnerable adults, you should ensure that appropriately qualified and CRB checked staff remain in charge of the group at all times during your visit.  Please complete your details in the visits booking form available via the link at the bottom of this page and then email the form to us.

We can normally host a group of up to about 40 people in one tour.  Greater numbers by special arrangement.

There is no charge for visits.  However groups causing extra administration or undue demands may be charged; as will late cancellations.

Voluntary donations are welcome.  You should make cheques payable to "SIC Madina Masjid Trust".

Group visits are normally held on a pre-booked basis on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.  The visits start at 10am and normally last between 45 and 90 minutes.

You will need to give at least 6 weeks notice for your visit request as we are very busy with visits.

Please note we will not host visits:

  • In the afternoons
  • on Fridays

Individual / Family Visits and Open Days

The second type of visit is for individuals / families for whom we will organise ‘open days’ – if you are an individual wishing to visit, please email us to submit your details and we will contact you closer to the appropriate time to inform you of the next available open day.

Research arrangements

The third type of visit is for research students and will be individually tailored.  We have been contacted by many individuals from colleges and universities who have wanted to study the Sheffield Islamic Centre from a variety of perspectives including architectural design, planning processes, community engagement, social and economic contribution to local community.  We are pleased to facilitate these on an individual basis as appropriate and where possible.  Please email us to let us know about your research plans and submission deadlines.  Please be realistic about deadlines – if we have enquiries very close to your submission deadlines, we will not be able to accommodate your request!

For group visits, please use the link below to open up the the booking form.  You should save the Microsoft Word file that opens up onto your computer. Then complete the document, make sure your amendments are saved again and then email the file back to us.
